Back to Black | An Ever After Concept Shoot

One of the best parts of having a model team? Getting to dream up incredible shoot ideas together—and then bringing them to life.

A few weeks ago, I met with my senior model team to plan something unique. We tossed out ideas, and the girls immediately said: no more fields, flowers, or lakes. They wanted bold. They wanted edgy. They wanted something completely different.

Someone mentioned Austin—specifically, the music scene near 6th Street—and it was like a switch flipped. Words started flying:
"Rock and roll." "Black leather." "60s retro." "Big eyeliner." "Urban decay."

Yes. YES. We had a concept.

Then, something magical happened: the Amy Winehouse documentary premiered the same week. Amy became our muse—her wild hair, her fearless fashion, her haunting voice and style. We built the shoot around that moody, vintage-glam rock energy. Think teased hair with flowers, winged liner, heels, tattoos, and the kind of confidence that doesn’t ask permission.

To bring the vision to life, I reached out to some of my favorite hair and makeup artists—and struck absolute gold when Valerie Solis said yes. Her styling gave the girls the perfect rock goddess transformation.

We shot the session in the gritty heart of downtown Austin, using back alleys, brick walls, loading docks, and graffiti-covered doorways. And despite a few bumps in the road (no epic shoot is without them), it was everything I’d hoped for and more. The girls embraced the character, the vibe, the transformation—and totally rocked it.

This was more than just a photoshoot. It was a collaboration, a creative release, and a reminder that senior portraits can be anything you dream them to be.

Black on Black

This was the first big concept session of the year, and I am looking forward to many more with this amazeballs team of girls.
